Uses
Daivobet Gel (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) is applied topically to the skin to treat psoriasis, and the red, scaly patches on the skin which this condition causes. This gel contains calcipotriol, which is a vitamin D derivative. It targets receptors in the skin, and helps to prevent the multiplication of cells which cause psoriasis symptoms. Another ingredient in this gel is betamethasone, which is a type of corticosteroid medication. Corticosteroids reduce inflammation and itching by preventing the body from releasing certain substances which cause inflammation.
Dosage and administration
Daivobet Gel (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) should be applied topically, exactly as directed by your doctor. Generally speaking, the recommended period of treatment is 4 weeks for treating the scalp, and 8 weeks for treating non scalp areas. Follow your doctor's instructions. If you are applying it to your skin, it is recommended that you do not wash the skin immediately after applying the gel. Ideally, it should remain on the skin during the day or night. Do not apply it to areas of skin not affected by psoriasis.
When applying it to the scalp, you should first ensure that there are no loose scales in the scalp. Combing the hair can remove any particles. A small amount of gel may then be placed onto the fingertip, and gently rubbed into the areas of the scalp affected by psoriasis (1g to 4g of gel is generally sufficient for the scalp). In order to achieve optimum results, you should not wash your hair straight away. Instead, it should be left on the scalp for a few hours. When you are washing the medication out of the scalp, you should first rub some mild shampoo into the areas where the gel was applied (this must be done when your hair is dry). Leave the shampoo on the hair for 1 to 2 minutes, and then wash it as you normally would.
