Uses
Eukroma-SG (Hydroquinone/Octyl Methoxycinnamate/Oxybenzone) is a dermatological cream used to lighten and bleach the skin. It works by affecting the synthesis of menalocyte. Sunscreens are also added. Hydroquinone is a chemical compound referred to as a phenol that is used for its skin lightening properties. Patients suffering from age spots, generalised facial hyperpigmentation or other conditions that cause the skin to become darker have often used it to make the skin fade and appear lighter in colour.

Its main mechanism of action involves causing in vito and in vivo inhibition of melanogenesis (the process in which the skin pigment melanin is produced). Experts have theorized that this may be due to it affecting the conversion of tyrosine to melanin. Melanin causes the skin to become dark or tanned, especially after sun exposure. By blocking melanogenesis, this cream reduces melanin levels, thereby helping to lighten the skin.

The other two ingredients are added due to their benefits in protecting the skin against the sun, however it is not to be used as a sunscreen. Octyl methoxycinnamate (also called octinoxate) is effective at absorbing the sun's UV rays. Oxybenzone is also considered to enhance protection against UVA rays. Because exposing the skin to ultraviolet light can result in repigmentation of skin that has been bleached with hydroquinone, adding these two ingredients may help to delay this. However, all precautions must be taken by patients to guard against the sun.
