Uses
FML Eye Drops (Fluorometholone) contain a corticosteroid medication and are indicated for the treatment of eye inflammation, including that which affects the conjunctiva, cornea and the anterior segment of the eyeball. It will only work effectively in conditions which are responsive to corticosteroids.

This means that mycobacterial eye infections, viral conditions affecting the cornea (such as dendritic keratitis) and fungal eye infections are not responsive to it. Although there is a general consensus within the medical community about there being no definitive answer for the exact way in which ocular corticosteroids work, it has been suggested that its mechanism of action may be related to it causing the induction of lipocortins.

These are types of proteins which play a key role in managing and controlling the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes (said to be mediators of inflammation). As a result of this, the release of substances which cause inflammation is blocked, allowing for a reduction of substances including inflammation, irritation and redness. Polyvinyl alcohol is also contained, for its benefits as a lubricant. This helps to relieve ocular dryness.

Dosage and Administration
FML Eye Drops (Fluorometholone) should be instilled into the conjunctival sac. Before treatment begins, full instructions related to proper use and administration will be provided by your doctor. Adult patients are sometimes directed by their doctor to apply the ophthalmic suspension 2 to 4 times per day. If no improvement occurs after 2 days, it may be necessary for your doctor to further examine the condition. Patients treating chronic disorders may be instructed to gradually reduce the frequency of administration. Always follow the instructions provided by your doctor.
