Uses
Lasix (Furosemide) is a type of medicine called a loop diuretic or water pill which is used to treat oedema (another name for fluid retention) in patients affected by congestive heart failure, or diseases affecting the liver or the kidneys. It may sometimes be prescribed as a high blood pressure treatment, and patients with hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels) have also been treated with this medicine.

This drug works by triggering the creation of more urine by the body, thereby allowing the body to rid itself of any unnecessary salt and water. The main ingredient in this medicine is sometimes referred to as frusemide.

Dosage and Administration
Lasix (Furosemide) tablets need to be administered in accordance with the dosage guidelines given by the prescribing doctor. Adults treating congestive heart failure are sometimes told to take it once per day (with the dosage taken in the morning) or else twice per day (one dose in the morning and another in the evening). However, the exact amount of medication required can be different, and all patients must visit their doctor before starting treatment and only take the prescribed amount.

Side effects
Taking Lasix (Furosemide) might cause side effects, such as:

Tell your doctor about any side effects you notice during treatment. In some cases, serious side effects are possible. You must immediately seek medical attention if you notice hearing problems, fever, a sore throat, weight changes, paleness of the skin or any other serious side effects.
