Questran Lite

Uses
Questran Lite (Cholestyramine Resin) is used for its cholesterol reducing properties. It works in the gastrointestinal tract, and affects the bile acid present there. The active component in this medicine functions as a bile acid sequestrant, and is commonly referred to as a hypolipidemic agent. Bile is a fluid that the liver makes to help digest fats. When taken, this medicine can bind to the bile in the intestine and stop it from re-entering the blood. The result of this is that more bile acids are released as faeces, which causes the liver to make even more bile acids using the cholesterol present in the blood, leading to a reduction of cholesterol levels.

Dosage and Administration
Questran Lite (Cholestyramine Resin) is provided as sachets. The powder in each sachet contains 4g of the active ingredient. Do not administer it as a dry powder. Instead, each sachet (containing 4g of medicine) should be added to a cup with 100ml to 150ml of water. Some people may prefer to use fruit juice. After this, it can be stirred and swallowed. Add more water to the cup and drink it to make sure that all of the medicine has been consumed. Your doctor will tell you how much to take and when it needs to be administered. Carefully follow all instructions given to you.

Side effects
Patients who are being treated medically with Questran Lite (Cholestyramine Resin) might experience side effects, and some of the possible reactions that can occur are listed here:

• Feeling bloated
• Appetite changes
• Muscular soreness
• An unusual taste in the mouth
• Mild reactions affecting the tongue

It is necessary to keep your doctor informed of any reactions which you experience. Serious side effects are not considered to be a very common occurrence. However, should any reactions which are serious in nature occur, such as persistent constipation, blood visible in the stools, extreme soreness affecting the stomach, bruising or rectal bleeding, you must immediately consult your doctor.

Precautions
Patients who consume large amounts of alcoholic beverages while taking this medicine are at an increased risk of it causing liver damage.

This medicine can have an effect on the amount of vitamins you take in from food. Discuss this with your doctor prior to starting treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Questran Lite (Cholestyramine Resin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
