Uses
Desowen Cream (Desonide) is a corticosteroid that is considered to be low in potency. It is uses in the treatment of eczema, psoriasis, allergic reactions and other conditions which affect the skin. The active ingredient in this medicated cream is used for its anti-inflammatory properties, and it can also act as an antipruritic and vasoconstrictive agent.
It is also believed that it inducts certain types of proteins, known as lipocortins. These lipocortins are responsible for the synthesis of leukotrienes and prostaglandins (substances which block the release of arachidonic acid, thereby causing inflammation). However, corticosteroids can cause the release of arachidonic acid.
