Uses
Ethics Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) is used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Some patients affected by diabetes have taken it to prevent kidney damage caused by this condition. It works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). This enzyme is responsible for causing angiotensin I to be converted into angiotensin II, which in turn leads to a reduction in vasopressor activity and the secretion of aldosterone.
Treatment with this drug allows for the blood vessels to become wider (as opposed to the narrow blood vessels that commonly occur in those affected by hypertension), which allows for a decrease in blood pressure. Patients affected by congestive heart failure, a condition in which the heart does not pump blood in an efficient manner may also notice an improvement in their condition after treatment with this medicine.
Dosage and Administration
Ethics Enalapril (Enalapril Maleate) tablets contain 5mg of the active ingredient and are meant to be administered orally. A medical examination will be needed so that your doctor can decide the appropriate dosage. There is a possibility that adult patients undergoing treatment for hypertension will be directed to begin treatment with a dosage consisting of 5mg (one tablet) per day.
Maintenance treatment may require the doctor to adjust the dosage, and the patient may be instructed to take between 10mg and 40mg of medicine per day, given as 1 to 2 divided doses. However, the exact amount of medicine that needs to be taken can differ based on the patient's individual factors and it is important to follow the instructions that your doctor gives you. Other conditions may also require a different amount of medicine.
