Use
Nicorette (Nicotine Polacrilex) chewing gum contains a low dosage of nicotine and is used to help ease the withdrawal symptoms many smokers experience when quitting. It is prescribed to smokers to help them quit smoking. It has been reported that the physical process of chewing the gum to help replace the physical aspect of smoking.
This method of quitting smoking is called 'nicotine replacement therapy'.
Dosage and Administration
Under normal circumstances patients can use the gums when needed, up to a maximum of once every 1 to 2 hours. Never take the chewimg gum more frequently than once per hour.
After 1 to 3 months use your body should have adjusted to the lower dose of nicotine and you can begin to consider gradually reducing the amount of gum you chew each day until you are ready to quit nicotine entirely.
The recommended method of using this gum is to chew until you start to notice a tingling sensation within your mouth. Then stop chewing and place the gum between your gums and the skin on the outside of your mouth, leaving it there until the sensations end and then chewing again. The maximum time you should chew any one gum for is 30 minutes.
Side Effects
Nicorette (Nicotine Polacrilex) chewing gum is normally safe and any adverse effects are not severe.
Side effects can occur though and the most commonly reported by patients using this product are dizziness, headaches, nausea, stomatits, dyspepsia, achy jaw, and mouth ulcers.
