Uses
Nimodip (Nimodipine) is prescribed to prevent further brain damage caused by a brain haemorrhage. It can also treat symptoms of this condition. Bleeding in the brain causes the body to narrow the blood vessels, so as to slow down the flow of blood. However, this can result in brain damage. This drug is a calcium channel blocker, and it works by relaxing the blood vessels which have narrowed, thereby allowing the blood to flow and reducing or preventing brain damage.
Dosage and Administration
Nimodip (Nimodipine) comes as tablets. In most cases, patients are directed to take it every 4 hours, generally for a period of 21 days. It must be taken as soon as possible after the brain haemorrhage occurs. The tablets must be taken on an empty stomach. Patients must continue treatment with this medication, unless their doctor tells them not to.
