Uses
Serobid Inhaler (Salmeterol Xinafoate) is intended for use as a maintenance treatment, to help decrease or prevent breathing difficulties and other related symptoms in patients suffering from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or emphysema. In some cases, it may be used to prevent bronchospasms during exercise. This medicine is a type of LABA (long acting beta agonist), which makes breathing easier by opening up airways in the lungs.
Dosage and Administration
Serobid Inhaler (Salmeterol Xinafoate) is administered via oral inhalation, using the device provided. Your doctor will prescribe a dosage regimen based on the severity of your condition. If you are using this inhaler to treat and prevent asthma symptoms, you may be told to use it twice per day at 12 hour intervals. Take one dose in the morning and another in the evening. Prevention of exercise induced bronchospasm requires one dose taken 30 minutes before the commencement of exercise.
Side effects
Serobid Inhaler (Salmeterol Xinafoate) may cause you to experience side effects, such as:
Remember that in addition to mild side effects, serious reactions which require immediate medical attention may occur. See your doctor straight away if you notice a worsening of asthma symptoms, muscular weakness, tremors, fainting, seizures or any other severe side effects.
Precautions
This medication will not work immediately, and it is not intended as a substitute for a quick relief inhaler. If your doctor has prescribed a quick relief inhaler for you, you will most likely be told to use the quick relief inhaler in case of a sudden asthma attack.
Because of the risk of serious breathing problems associated with this medication, it is generally only prescribed when other types of asthma medication cannot effectively control asthma. After your asthma has been controlled, your doctor may tell you to stop using it.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Serobid Inhaler (Salmeterol Xinafoate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
