SoviHep (Sofosbuvir) is indicated for the treatment of Hepatitis C in adults. Sofosbuvir is able to treat genotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Hepatitis C. It is used with other medications (usually ribavirin and pegylated interferon) as part of a complete treatment plan.

Dosage and Administration
SoviHep (Sofosbuvir) is taken for a 12 week period. The other medications being taken along with sofosbuvir should be taken for the same length of time. It is better to take the medicines at the same time, and to do so at the same time each day. You can take SoviHep in the morning (to reduce insomnia) and to take it with food (to reduce nausea). These are guidelines for treatment. Your doctor will prescribe you a complete treatment plan.

The dosage you will be required to take well depend on your weight and the genotype of hepatitis C Virus you have contracted. Take the dosage that has been prescribed by your doctor and do not adjust this if you start to feel better or worse. Most often, a starting dose of 400 mg per day is prescribed. This is sometimes increased up to 600mg per day. Your doctor will make this decision based on how the treatment is progressing.

Side effects
The most common side effects of sofosbuvir are some nausea and insomnia, especially when you first start taking it. If you take SoviHep with food and take your dose in the morning, this can help to reduce these side effects.

Sofosbuvir could decrease your red blood cell count. Your doctor should schedule regular blood tests to make sure that these levels remain within safe limits.

Liver function can be negatively affected by taking SoviHep (Sofosbuvir). If you have a history of liver problems, you should not use Sofosbuvir. Liver function tests may be required while treating Hepatitis C with Sofosbuvir.

Tell your doctor immediately if Sofosbuvir causes severe diarrhea, shortness of breath or heart rate changes.

SoviHep (Sofosbuvir) is often taken with ribavirin and pegylated interferon, but works best if no other medicines are being taken. Tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, herbal treatments or nutritional supplements.

Taken alone, SoviHep (Sofosbuvir) may not be successful in treating hepatitis C. Take it as in a combination treatment plan containing ribavirin and pegylated interferon. Your doctor will advise you further before beginning treatment with Sofosbuvir.

Do not take Sofosbuvir if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Sofosbuvir can result in birth defects, damage to the fetus, or early termination of pregnancy. It is recommended to use multiple forms of contraception to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication and for 6 months after treatment ends, as it is vital you do not become pregnant while you or your partner are taking Sofosbuvir.

Sofosbuvir can cause sever diarrhea in some cases. In you experience this, be sure to maintain your fluid intake to sufficient levels to prevent dehydration.
