Uses
Terapress (Terazosin) is prescribed to male patients as a treatment for symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). This condition causes urination problems such as frequent urination or a weak stream. These symptoms are caused by the enlargement of the prostate gland. Treatment with this drug causes the relaxation of the muscle in the prostate, thereby allowing urine to flow freely.
Another condition this medicine is used to treat is high blood pressure. As this medicine is a type of alpha-blocker, it acts on the muscles in the blood cells, and blocks the alpha receptors, resulting in the relaxation of the blood vessels. This allows the blood to flow more freely, eventually leading to a reduction in blood pressure.
Dosage and Administration
See your doctor before taking Terapress (Terazosin) tablets, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Adult patients undergoing treatment for high blood pressure are sometimes told to start off with a dose of 1mg, taken once per day before going to bed. This dose may be adjusted, after which a maintenance dose ranging from 1mg to 5mg per day may be prescribed. An enlarged prostate is normally treated with 1mg per day, at bedtime. The prescribing doctor may adjust the patient's dosage incrementally, first to 2mg per day, and then to 5mg, and finally 10mg per day, in order to achieve the optimum effects.
