Uses
Tiromel (Liothyronine Sodium) is used as a treatment for an underactive thyroid (also called hypothyroidism). This can occur because of treatment with certain medicines, or if the thyroid gland has been removed as a result of surgery. The main ingredient in this medication is a synthetic hormone (sometimes known as T3), which treats sensitivity to cold, loss of hair, dry skin and other symptoms of hypothyroidism, by replacing the natural thyroid hormone (T3 liothyronine). It is also used to treat include infertility, an enlarged thyroid (called a goiter), Hashimoto's thyroiditis and other conditions. This medication should not be used to help with weight loss.

Dosage and Administration
Tiromel (Liothyronine Sodium) comes in the form of tablets. Your doctor will tell you the correct amount to take. Patients treating hypothyroidism are sometimes prescribed a dosage of 25mcg, to be taken once per day. The prescribing doctor may decide to adjust the patient's dosage. If you are taking antacids or any other supplements which contain aluminium or iron, talk to your doctor about whether or not it is safe to continue taking these supplements. Your doctor may tell you to take this medicine either 4 hours before or after you take any supplements.

Side effects
Some unwanted side effects may occur in patients taking Tiromel (Liothyronine Sodium) tablets, such as:

• Tremors
• Weight loss
• Sleep disturbances
• Temporary loss of hair
• Menstrual cycle changes

You are advised to inform your doctor if you notice any side effects which worry you. Severe reactions may occur, and if this happens, you will need to seek immediate medical treatment. Examples of this can include pain in the chest, weakness and swelling of the limbs. This is not a complete list of reactions, and other side effects which have not been listed here may occur.

Precautions
These tablets should never be taken by patients with a normal thyroid function to treat obesity. Serious and potentially life threatening symptoms are possible, especially if it is taken with other diet pills.

Medical conditions which must be reported to the prescribing doctor include any conditions affecting the heart, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, myxedema, hepatitis and an underactive pituitary or adrenal gland.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Tiromel (Liothyronine Sodium) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
