Uses
Zarator (Atorvastatin Calcium) acts primarily in the liver and helps to lower the blood levels of lipoprotein and cholesterol. The main ingredient which is responsible for its pharmacological effects belongs to the statin class of medicines and is often referred to as a synthetic lipid reducing agent. Cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) which occur in the liver contribute to the formation of LDL (low density lipoprotein), also called bad cholesterol.
This medicine inhibits HMG-CoA, an enzyme which is a precursor of cholesterol and other sterols, resulting in less cholesterol being synthesized in the liver and decreased LDL production. Treatment can therefore help prevent a blockage in the blood vessels and reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events in patients who are said to be at risk, due to diabetes, blood vessel disease or a history of certain medical conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Zarator (Atorvastatin Calcium) 40mg tablets are taken orally exactly as directed by the doctor in charge of treatment. The dosage needed to treat hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia can vary depending on individual factors, and adult patients are generally instructed by their doctor to take a daily dosage which ranges from 10mg to 80mg per day. Patients will be required to strictly adhere to the dosage regimen that their doctor directs them to take. A re-assessment of the lipid levels will occur 4 weeks after starting treatment and the doctor may need to adjust the patient's daily dosage based on the response.
