Uses
Bekunis (Sennosides) is a laxative made using natural senna. It works by stimulating the bowel at night, so as to promote smooth regular bowel movements, thereby relieving constipation. Senna glycosides (also called sennosides) are derived from the senna, a type of plant which is used as medicine. These glycosides are known to increase the secretion of gastric fluid and improve bowel motility, resulting in laxative effects. Patients affected by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have often used this medicine, and it has sometimes been given prior to a colonoscopy so as to clear out the bowel.

Dosage and Administration
Bekunis (Sennosides) tablets are administered by mouth. Each one contains 20mg of sennosides. In general, doctors may recommend using it occasionally to relieve constipation, and patients may be told to take 1 tablet per day. Normally, a bowel movement occurs 6 to 12 hours after taking this medicine. However, it is important to note that laxatives should not be used for more than 1 week unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Side effects
Patients taking Bekunis (Sennosides) may notice some side effects, which can include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Feelings of nausea
  • Changes in bowel movements
  • Soreness affecting the stomach

Ensure that you report all side effects to your doctor, and get medical attention immediately if you suffer from rectal bleeding, a failure to have any bowel movements after using the medicine or any other serious symptoms.

Precautions
Long term use of laxatives could disrupt the proper functioning of the bowels and may also affect the balance of electrolytes in the blood. Discuss this with your doctor before starting treatment.

Excessive use of this product could worsen certain medical conditions, such as potassium deficiency.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Bekunis (Sennosides) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
