Uses
Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) tablets are prescribed for treating many different types of bacterial infections, and are considered to be especially effective at fighting gram negative bacteria (such as salmonella). Chest, urinary tract, respiratory tract, ear and many other infections in the body are treated with this drug. Other conditions, such as gonorrhoea, infected abscesses and soft tissue infections may be treated with this drug.

In some cases, those who may have inhaled anthrax spores may be treated with this medicine, as a preventative measure. The main ingredient in this medicine is a type of fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which works by attacking the bacteria responsible for causing the infection.

Dosage and Administration
Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) comes in the form of 500mg tablets, which must be taken in strict compliance with the prescribing doctor's instructions. After a medical consultation, your doctor will prescribe a dosage regimen to you, based on which condition you are treating, as well as other factors.

Adults treating bronchitis which is considered to be mild or moderate in nature are often directed to take 500mg at 12 hour intervals (twice per day). Treatment will generally last for 7 to 14 days. Infectious diarrhoea is usually treated with a dose of 500mg taken every 12 hours, for a period of 5 to 7 days. Other conditions may require different doses. The dosage guides given here are only examples, and in all cases, patients must consult their doctor in order to determine the correct dosage.

Side effects
Patients who take Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) tablets may sometimes experience side effects, which can range from mild to serious. Ask your doctor about the risk of this before starting treatment. Some examples are listed here:

  • Agitation
  • Decreased appetite
  • Itching of the vagina
  • Digestive disturbances
  • Changes in sense of taste

While you are taking this antibiotic medicine, it is strongly recommended that you tell your doctor about any side effects that occur. Rare, but serious side effects may also occur. See your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical care if you notice muscle pain, fever, migraine, symptoms of pancreatitis, hallucinations or any other signs of a severe reaction.

Precautions
Taking this medication may place patients at an increased risk of tendinitis or a tendon rupture. This may occur while you are taking this drug, or after you have finished treatment. Some patients may be more at risk of this than others. Discuss the risk of tendon damage with your doctor before taking this medication.

Patients with myasthenia gravis must not take this drug, as it could worsen muscular weakness, and in rare cases, it could be fatal.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
