Uses
Ludiomil (Maprotiline Hydrochloride) is an antidepressant medication which achieves its therapeutic benefits by inhibiting the reuptake of a chemical called noradrenaline at the nerve endings. The active ingredient in this drug is referred to as a TeCA (tetracyclic antidepressant) and is also said to have sedative and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties.

Depressive symptoms are widely believed to be related to low serotonin and noradrenaline levels in the brain. By blocking postsynaptic receptors in the body (such as the H1 receptors), and preventing the reuptake of neurotransmitters into the nerve endings, it can help to improve prolong the positive effects of noradrenaline and serotonin on the brain.

This can lead to an improvement in those suffering from depression. Patients have also been treated with it for bipolar disorder (depressive phase), panic disorder, depressive neurosis, tension and neuropathic pain. When administered to patients with chronic neurogenic pain, lower back pain (or pain from other causes), it may work by affecting the body's perception of pain and improving sleep.

Dosage and Administration
The proper dosage in patients taking Ludiomil (Maprotiline Hydrochloride) for depression will be decided upon by the doctor who is in charge of treatment. This medicine comes as 25mg tablets. Adult outpatients affected by depression which is mild to moderate in nature may be told to take 75mg per day, given either as a single dose or divided dose. However, some patients may need a lower dosage. Always follow the instructions of your doctor and never take more than the recommended amount.

Side effects
Ludiomil (Maprotiline Hydrochloride) could cause:

• Constipation
• Libido changes
• Urination problems
• Perspiring excessively
• Dryness in the mouth and thirst

Inform your doctor of any side effects which occur. Certain reactions may be serious. You will need to go to the hospital or consult your doctor immediately if you experience hallucinations, aggressive behaviour, seizures, muscular spasms, shaking which you cannot control or any other reactions which are not listed here.

Precautions
If you experience a worsening of your depression or suicidal thoughts, it will be necessary to tell your doctor straight away.

This medicine could make the eyes dry, which may affect patients who wear contact lenses. Ask your doctor about this before commencing treatment.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Ludiomil (Maprotiline Hydrochloride) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
