Uses
Pabyrn (Ethinyloestradiol) is a synthetic form of oestrogen (a female sex hormone). It treats menopausal symptoms by replenishing the body's reduced hormone levels. The usual function of oestrogens in the body include helping maintain the menstrual cycle and aiding the proper development of the body. The production of oestrogen by the body gradually declines during the menopause, which may lead to distressing symptoms such as mood changes, vaginal dryness and hot flushes.

Osteoporosis may even develop in some cases. Administration of hormonal medicine to treat the aforementioned symptoms may be recommended by doctors in some cases. This medicine has also been used in conjunction with a progestogen to treat menstruation disorders and to prevent osteoporosis in females who are unable to take other medicines used for this purpose. In some cases, it has been used to treat men for prostate cancer.

Dosage and Administration
Pabyrn (Ethinyloestradiol) is provided in 10mcg strength tablets for administration via the oral route. The dosage required will depend on the medical condition that you are undergoing treatment for. In all cases your doctor will decide the correct dosage needed. Women undergoing HRT (hormone replacement therapy) may be told to administer 10mcg to 50mcg (with the exact amount determined by the doctor) per day on a cyclical basis, meaning that the medicine should be taken for 3 weeks followed by a 1 week break.

Some women may also be directed to take a progestogen. The dosage for period disorders is usually different, and the frequency of administration may also vary. Prostate cancer is normally treated with a dosage ranging from 150mcg to 1.5mg per day, and for this reason a higher strength tablet is normally recommended by doctors instead of these tablets.

Treatment with Pabyrn (Ethinyloestradiol) might lead to side effects, including:

It is very important that your doctor is kept informed of all reactions which you experience during the course of treatment. The list of side effects provided above is not definitive and other possible reactions may occur. Some of these are serious. You will need medical care straight away if you experience inflammation or pain affecting the leg, lumps on the breast or nipple, pain in the chest or any other serious reactions.
