Uses
Ramipres (Ramipril) inhibits the angiotensin converting enzyme in humans, which allows for a reduction in blood pressure. This medicine is a prodrug which is converted into its active metabolite Ramiprilat by the liver. It then starts to work, suppressing the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and blocking the production of angiotensin II (a compound which the body uses to control pressure within the veins). The result of this is that the blood vessels widen and the blood pressure drops. Another benefit is that the blood can flow more effectively, which makes it a possible treatment option for congestive heart failure or aiding recovery and improving survival after a heart attack.

Dosage and Administration
Ramipres (Ramipril) uncoated tablets each contain 5mg of the active ingredient. Adults with Congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction or left ventricular dysfunction may be told to start treatment with 2.5mg, administered twice per day. Depending on the clinical response, the doctor providing medical care may decide to adjust the dosage for maintenance treatment and instruct the patient to take 5mg twice per day. The dosage required for diabetic nephropathy or high blood pressure may depend on whether or not the doctor decides to administer it alongside a diuretic.

Side effects
Ramipres (Ramipril) could cause:

• Vertigo
• Vomiting
• Excess fatigue
• Stomach discomfort
• Constipation or diarrhoea

All reactions need to be reported to the doctor providing you with medical care. Should you notice serious side effects, including excess sweating, passing urine which is cloudy or discoloured, a significant reduction in urination, fever, pain in the limbs or any other reactions not listed here, see your doctor immediately.

Precautions
Blood pressure checks and blood tests will be ordered by your doctor at regular intervals. It is essential that you attend all scheduled medical appointments.

Postural hypotension may occur, however it is not considered extremely common. Make sure that you get up slowly if you are sitting or lying down.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Ramipres (Ramipril) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
