Uses
Sofracort Eye Drops (Framycetin Sulphate) are indicated for treating eye infections. They are also used for treating otitis externa (an outer ear infection) and other ear conditions. This medicine is a combination treatment, containing gramicidin and framycetin (a type of aminoglycoside antibiotic) as antibacterial agents. Both of these ingredients act in different ways to target and destroy the bacteria responsible for infection symptoms.
Inflammation is often present in eye and ear infections, and can result in pain. Dexamethasone, (a type of corticosteroid) is added to these drops to reduce inflammation. It works by controlling the response that causes inflammation. Eye conditions for which this medicine is used include blephartis, rosacea conjunctivitis, rosacea keratitis, eczema which is infected occurring on the eyelid, iridocyclitis, scleritis, episcleritis and other similar conditions. In addition to treating otitis externa, it may also be used for seborrhoeic conditions that affect the outer ear.
