Uses
Androcur (Cyproterone Acetate) is used for various different conditions. It is often used to reduce the sex drive in men affected by hypersexuality and abnormal sexual behaviour. This drug works by acting on the area of the brain that controls testosterone production (hypothalamus). By reducing testosterone in the body, the sex drive is reduced. Other uses for this drug include treating prostate cancer, priapism, benign prostatic hyperplasia and treating women for acne and hirsutism. In addition to this, male to female transsexuals have sometimes used this medicine, as part of their hormone therapy.

Dosage and Administration
Patients taking Androcur (Cyproterone Acetate) tablets should note that the exact dosage required will differ for everyone, and you will need to visit your doctor, so that the correct and proper dosage can be determined. Adults are normally told to take 1 tablet, twice per day. However, when the optimum effect is achieved, the prescribing doctor may decide to reduce the dosage. The tablet should be taken after breakfast and your evening meal, and it is necessary to swallow it with a full glass of water.

Side effects
Treatment with Androcur (Cyproterone Acetate) can sometimes cause side effects, including:

• Perspiration
• Gynaecomastia
• Changes in weight
• A reduction in sperm count
• A decreased volume of sperm ejaculated

Inform your doctor if you feel unwell during treatment. Other side effects include tender lumps on the breasts, a discharge from the nipples, a reduction in body hair, thromboembolism and changes in the colour of hair. Remember that some reactions are serious and will require immediate medical attention. Ask your doctor for more details.

Precautions
It is very important to note that treatment with this medicine can cause severe liver problems. Regular liver tests may be required before you start taking this drug, and while you are taking it. In some cases, treatment with this drug may cause benign liver tumours. Ask your doctor about the risks of treatment before taking this medicine.

Blood clots or anaemia may occur when taking this medicine. You are advised to check with your doctor before starting treatment, to determine whether or not you are at risk of this.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Androcur (Cyproterone Acetate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
