Uses
Claribid (Clarithromycin) is an antibiotic medicine which is effective against many infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia, bronchitis, ear infections, infections of the sinus, skin, throat and elsewhere in the body. It may also be prescribed as a treatment for disseminated MAC (mycobacterium avium complex) infection, and can be used in combination with other drugs to rid the body of Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria which causes stomach ulcers.

Dosage and Administration
Claribid (Clarithromycin) comes as tablets. A full medical assessment will be required before commencing treatment, so that your doctor can prescribe the correct dosage required to treat your infection. It is common for adult patients to be told to take this medicine twice per day (at 12 hour intervals) for a period of time which can range from 7 to 14 days. However, certain conditions may require treatment for a longer period of time. Even if your symptoms improve, you should finish the entire prescribed amount of medicine, as stopping treatment early could result in a return of your symptoms.

Side effects
Treating bacterial infections with Claribid (Clarithromycin) can sometimes result in side effects, such as:

• Taste changes
• Digestive problems
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Discolouration of the tongue
• Pain affecting the muscles or joints

You should tell your doctor about any side effects you experience while you are taking this medicine. Serious side effects can also occur, and require immediate medical attention. These include skin blisters, bruising and bleeding, kidney or liver disorders, stomach pain and fever. Other side effects which have not been listed here may also occur.

Precautions
If you have low blood levels of magnesium, low potassium levels, have ever suffered from an irregular heartbeat, illnesses affecting the kidneys or liver disease, you need to tell your doctor before taking this medicine.

This medication is only effective against bacterial infections, and it will not treat viral infections.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Claribid (Clarithromycin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
