Uses
Creon 10000 (Pancreatin) is used to help with the food digestive process in patients who have a lower than normal level of digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas (or if production is totally absent). This can occur in patients affected by cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis.
These capsules contain a combination of digestive enzymes (amylase, lipase and protease), which are normally produced in by the pancreas. When taken, these capsules help to aid the digestive process, and act as a supplement or substitute for the enzymes which are not being produced, due to a medical condition or other factors.
Dosage and Administration
Creon 10000 (Pancreatin) comes as gastro resistant capsules. This means that they are specially coated to protect the active ingredient from the acid inside the stomach, allowing a higher quantity of the medicine to reach the intestines, where it is most effective. This medicine is generally taken alongside meals. Your doctor will most likely instruct you to swallow the capsule whole (it should not be chewed or crushed). Some patients may be told that it is acceptable to open up the capsule and sprinkle its contents with some soft food (however, if this is done, the soft food mixture must be swallowed instantly and not chewed).
