Uses
Cytoblastin is a cancer treatment. The active ingredient is called Vinblastine Sulphate. Vinblastine is classified as a vinca alkaloid. It is indicated in the treatment of Hodgkin's disease, lymphocytic lymphoma, histiocytic lymphoma, mycosis fungoides, carcinoma of the testes, Kaposi's sarcoma and Letterer-Siwe disease (histiocytosis X). Cytoblastin works by inhibiting microtubule formation in the mitotic spindle within cancer cells, which slows the spread and replication of the cancer cells.
Dosage and Administration
Cytoblastin is given by via intravenous injection. Any other form of administration can be fatal.
Dosages will depend on the condition being treated, as well as the age of the patient and any other underlying conditions. 3.7mg/m2 of body surface area is often used as a starting dose for adults, and this then increases gradually throughout treatment. It is not recommended to exceed a dose of 18.5 mg/m2 body surface area.

Precautions
Cytoblastin can only be given by intravenous injection. If it is taken any other way it can be fatal.
In patients with significant granulocytopenia, Cytoblastin should not be used, except if the granulocytopenia is a result of the cancer being treated.
In patients with bacterial infections, the bacterial infection must be fully treated and remedied before taking vinblastine sulfate.
