Antidiabetic medication Glibenclamide Daonil

Uses
Daonil (Glibenclamide) contains Glibenclamide as an active ingredient. Daonil (Glibenclamide) is manufactured in the form of tablets, which produce antithrombotic, hypolipidemic, and hypoglycemic effects.

Daonil (Glibenclamide) is used in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes), when it's impossible to compensate hyperglycemia with a diet, weight loss, and physical activity.

Dosage and Administration
Daonil (Glibenclamide) dose is prescribed individually to each patient on a case by case basis and depends on the age of the patient, the severity of the disease, and the level of glycemia. Daonil (Glibenclamide) tablets are taken by mouth in a fasting condition or 2 hours after a meal.

Average daily dose is normally set within 2.5-15mg, taken 1-3 times per day. Daily doses exceeding 15mg are rarely prescribed, and there's no significant increase in the hypoglycemic effect. Elderly patients are prescribed 1mg as a daily dose in the beginning of the treatment. All transitions between different medications, dosage manipulations, and other changes are supposed to be completed under the physician's supervision.

Side effects
During the course of the treatment with Daonil (Glibenclamide), adverse events affecting the function of the endocrine, digestive, nervous, peripheral and hemopoietic systems may develop. These adverse events are manifested as the following side effects: hypoglycaemia of varying severity, nausea, diarrhea, liver function disorders, cholestasis, headache, weakness, tiredness, and dizziness. Allergic and dermatologic reactions, manifested as skin rash, itching, photosensitization, and other symptoms, may also occur.

Precautions
It is recommended to prescribe Daonil (Glibenclamide) with caution to patients, suffering from liver and kidney diseases, fever conditions, adrenal glands and thyroid disorders, and alcohol addiction. Comprehensive therapeutic process requires monitoring blood glucose and urinary glucose excretion levels during the treatment.

If hypoglycemia occurs when the patient in conscious, sugar and glucose are administered by mouth. However, when the patient is unconscious, glucose is administered intravenously, and glucagon can be administered intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intravenously. When the patient regains consciousness, they are supposed to be given food high in carbohydrates to avoid another hypoglycemia episode.
