Dutagen

Uses
Dutagen (Dutasteride) is used to treat urination problems, such as a weak flow of urine and frequent urination when these problems are caused by the enlargement of the prostate gland. Treatment may also reduce the need to undergo surgery. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate) occurs as a result of excess levels of DHT, a hormone. Reducing the levels of this hormone allows the prostate to reduce in size, which leads to relief from urinary symptoms.

Medical research has shown that taking this medicine may increase hair growth on the head. Due to its reported benefits in this area, many adult men have used this medication to help with the growth of hair, and it has proven popular with males wishing to treat hair loss.

Dosage and Administration
When treating an enlarged prostate with Dutagen (Dutasteride) capsules, your doctor may tell you to take this drug as monotherapy, or you may be instructed to take it together with tamsulosin. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is generally treated with 0.5mg per day. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. 3 to 6 months of treatment may be required before your symptoms improve. Remember to tell your doctor if no improvement in symptoms is noticed after this time.

Side effects
Before you start taking Dutagen (Dutasteride), ask your doctor about the possible side effects which may occur. A list of some possible reactions is included here:

• Dizziness
• Increased growth of hair
• Problems achieving an erection
• Disorders related to ejaculation
• Tenderness or change in the size of breasts

Patients should take note of the fact that serious side effects are possible. In rare cases, reactions such as a discharge from the nipples, lumps in the breast or peeling of the skin may occur. If this happens, or if any other severe reactions which are not listed here occur, you must see your doctor straight away.

Precautions
Your doctor may make you aware of the fact that treatment with this drug can increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. It is recommended that you discuss all the possible risks of treatment with your doctor.

Pregnant women must not handle these capsules. This is because if the capsules are leaking, there is a risk of the active ingredient being absorbed through the skin. Male patients must avoid donating blood during treatment and for 6 months after they finish taking this drug.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Dutagen (Dutasteride) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
