Uses
Epivir Oral Solution (Lamivudine) is used to treat HIV infections. It is prescribed as part of a combination antiretroviral treatment plan. This means that it is used together with other drugs. The main ingredient in this drug (often referred to as 3TC) belongs to a class of medications called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI). It works by inhibiting the action of a certain enzyme (reverse transcriptase) which is needed for the virus to multiply.
Although treatment with this medicine will not cure HIV (and will also not prevent it from being spread to others), it can reduce the viral load in the body, while also lessening the risk of developing AIDS and other illness that may occur as a result of HIV. In some cases, this medicine may be used in combination with another type of drug to prevent healthcare workers or people who may have accidentally been exposed to the virus from becoming infected.
Dosage and Administration
Epivir Oral Solution (Lamivudine) needs to be taken exactly as directed by your doctor.
