Uses
Falcigo (Artesunate) is a treatment for Malaria. Artesenute is approved by the World Health Organization and is very effective in severe cases of malaria. It contains a 60mg Vial of for injection or oral administration and also includes the liquids required for correct mixing.
Dosage and Administration
Artesunate injection is a first line treatment in cases of severe malaria. It has been recommended by the World Health Organization for this use.
The powder needs to be reconstituted with sodium bicarbonate and sodim chloride solution (included in the pack). The seperate components should be mixed immediately prior to injection. Any remaining ingredients should be discarded.
When injected intramuscularly or intervenously, the recommended dosage is a loading dose of 2mg/kg followed by a second dose of 1mg/kg in one hour and a third dose of 1mg/kg after 24 hours.
Side effects
Artesunate is generally well-tolerated. Sometimes fever can occur. If high doses are given cardiotoxicity can occur.
Precautions
Falcigo (Artesunate) may not be safe to take during the first trimester of pregnancy. It is safe to take and is the recommended treatment for the second and third trimesters.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
