Uses
Invokana (Canagliflozin) is a diabetes medication used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It works by decreasing sugar absorption in the body and increasing the amount of sugar excreted in the urine. Canagliflozin is classified as a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor.

Dosage and Administration
Invokana is offered in a 100mg tablet. Each strip contains 10 tablets..

Your doctor will prescribed an individualized dosage. Follow these dosage instructions. You may need regular blood tests to ensure that your blood sugar levels are being adequately controlled. If they are not, your dosage may need to be adjusted.

Canagliflozin should taken before eating your first meal of the day unless advised by your doctor.

Invokana should be taken in conjunction with a diet and exercise program.

Side effects
Canagliflozin is well tolerated by most people. You may notice some increased urination.

If you experience any of the following while taking canagliflozin contact your doctor as soon as possible:

  • signs of severe evere allergic reaction
  • fainting
  • discharge from the vagina or penis
  • itching, rash, pain, or irritation
  • irregular heartbeat
  • unusual muscle weakness
  • severe or persistent headache or dizziness
  • symptoms of kidney problems or urinary tract infection

Precautions
Canagliflozin can make you feel dizzy or light-headed and can sometimes result in fainting. These effects can be increased with the use of alcohol. Do not drive a car or operate machinery and limit alcohol consumption until you know how canagliflozin affects you.

Canagliflozin should be used with care in the elderly as side effects can be more severe in this population.

Use with caution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, low or high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high potassium blood levels before using Invokana.

Some other medicines can prevent canagliflozin from working properly, or have their action inhibitied by canagliflozin. Tell your doctor if you are taking:

  • any other diabetes medicines
  • angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors)
  • phenytoin
  • phenobarbital
  • rifampin
  • ritonavir
  • digoxin
