Uses
Minirin (Desmopressin Acetate) is given to patients suffering from diabetes insipidus (water diabetes) and other problems causing excessive thirst and urination, such as nocturia, and excessive urination as a result of head injuries or surgery. It is also used to treat nocturia and bedwetting. This medication is classed as a hormonal drug, and is effective in treating these symptoms by replacing a hormone known as vasopressin, which is responsible for controlling the balance of water and salt in the body.
Dosage and administration
Minirin (Desmopressin Acetate) tablets are taken orally, with a glass of water. Adult patients areusually instructed to take one 0.1mg tablet, either 2 or 3 times per day. If the patient is using this drug to treat bedwetting, the usually dosage prescribed is one tablet per day, taken shortly before bedtime. Correct dosage varies depending on the severity of the condition and the patient being treated. Children require a reduced dosage.
