Modavigil

Uses
Modavigil (Modafinil) is used to treat narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness), obstructive sleep apnoea, and shift-work sleep disorder. It is a mood-brightening and memory-enhancing psychostimulant which is solidly proven to enhance wakefulness and vigilance. It is very popular as a study drug (nootropic), as well as for the other off-label uses such as ADHD, SAD (seasonal affective disorder), chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, Parkinson`s disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and is even thought to promote weight loss.

Dosage and administration
The recommended daily dose is 200mg. For patients with narcolepsy and OSA/HA, Modavigil (Modafinil) should be taken as single dose in the morning.

In patients with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome, modafinil may be added a an adjunct therapy along with the primary disease-modifying interventions like continuous positive Airway pressure (CPAP).

Doses up to 400mg per day, given as a single dose, have ben well tolerated, but there is no consistent evidence that this dose confers additional benefit beyond that of 200mg dose.

Moderate to Severe Chronic Shift Work sleep Disorder. The recommended daily dose is 200mg which should be taken as a single dose approximately 1 hour prior to the start of the work shift.

Side effects
Patients may experience side effects when taking Modavigil (Modafinil). Disclose side effects to your doctor as soon as possible. Side effects which have been reported by patients using this medication include:

• Headache
• Diarrhoea
• Nervousness
• Confusion
• Tremors
• Insomnia
• Hypertension
• Palpitations
• Depression
• Unusual behaviour
• Abnormal liver function

Precautions
Modavigil (Modafinil) is not suitable for patients who are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding.

If you have high blood pressure you will require increased monitoring while taking this medication to ensure it remains safe.

Before you begin taking this medication, always disclose to your doctor if you have a history of psychosis, depression, mania, liver or kidney impairment of any kind, or Tourette`s syndrome.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Modavigil (Modafinil) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
