Uses
Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) is a local anaesthetic in the form of a gel that can be used to provide relief from severe mucosal pain, such as that caused by oropharyngeal disorders and dental problems. The active ingredient in this medicine has been widely used to provide relief from topical pain. Its mode of action involves penetration of the oral mucosa and the blocking of nerve signals, which is achieved by inhibiting the VDSCs (voltage dependent sodium channels) that are found on the nerves. This in turn stops the pain signals from being sent to the brain.
Dosage and Administration
Mucopain Gel (Benzocaine) is used topically. Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions related to the proper application of this gel and it is essential that you comply with any directions given to you. Ensure that you thoroughly wash your hands prior to application (and after you have finished applying it). In some cases, patients may be told to use a cotton swab or a finger (which is clean) to apply the medicated anaesthetic gel to the affected or sensitive area. Excess application must be avoided, as this could lead to side effects. Therefore you must only apply the amount of gel that your doctor instructs you to.
