Uses
Pirfenex (Pirfenidone) is a medicine that is used as a treatment for IPF (Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) when symptoms are mild to moderate. Patients affected by this condition suffer from symptoms such as breathlessness, infections of the lungs and coughing which persists. These symptoms occur as a result of the formation of hard tissue in the lungs, resulting in swelling and scarring.

When taken, this drug helps to prevent the formation of certain chemicals that contribute to fibrosis (such as TGF-beta). It also has anti-inflammatory properties, and can prevent the production of TNF-alpha (which can cause inflammation). By reducing scarring on the lungs, this medicine may help to improve the breathing in patients affected by this condition.

Dosage and Administration
Patients who are being treated with Pirfenex (Pirfenidone) for IPF will be under the close supervision of a doctor who specialises in treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This medicine comes as 200mg tablets, which are administered orally. In some cases, adjustments to the dosage regimen may be required, however, this will be at the discretion of the doctor providing the treatment. Under no circumstances should the prescribed dosage be exceeded.

Side effects
