Uses
Rcifax 400 (Rifaximin) is an antibiotic used to treat traveller's diarrhoea caused by bacteria. When taken, the active ingredient is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead, it remains in the patient's digestive tract and prevents the bacteria from growing and spreading. This eventually treats bacterial diarrhoea. In some cases, this medicine has been used by patients to treat a disorder known as hepatic encephalopathy, a condition caused by a build up of toxins in the brain, usually affecting patients with liver disease.
Dosage and Administration
Follow the advice and instructions provided to you by your doctor when taking Rcifax 400 (Rifaximin) tablets. If you are treating traveller's diarrhoea, you will most likely be instructed to take it 3 times per day for a period of 3 days. It works best if taken at evenly spaced intervals. You need to tell your doctor if you are still affected by diarrhoea after 1 to 2 days. The dosage for treatment of hepatic encephalopathy is different, and patients may be told by their doctor to take it twice per day.
