Conditions affecting the bones Risedronate Risofos

Uses
Risofos (Risedronate) is a bisphosphonate medication that patients use as a treatment for Paget's disease of bone or osteoporosis (affecting men or women) including postmenopausal osteoporosis. These conditions affect the bones, and cause symptoms such as abnormal bone formation (Paget's disease) or a reduction in bone strength leading to a high fracture risk (osteoporosis). Treatment with this drug helps the bones to become stronger by preventing osteoclasts (types of cells) from dissolving the bones, leading to a reduction in the removal of bone material.

Dosage and Administration
Risofos (Risedronate) tablets need to be taken exactly as your doctor tells you. Patients are generally told to take a dosage that consists of 1 tablet (which contains 35mg), taken once per week. However, it is necessary to take each tablet on the same day as the previous week, so as to ensure maximum effectiveness. In addition to treatment with this drug, special dietary instructions may need to be followed in order to improve the health of bones. Continue taking the medicine unless your doctor tells you that you need to stop.

Side effects
Treating bone conditions with Risofos (Risedronate) may result in some side effects, such as:

  • Belching
  • Dizziness
  • Muscular pain
  • Frequent desire to urinate
  • Pain occurring while urinating

Any side effects experienced should be reported to the doctor providing treatment. Seek emergency medical care if you experience persistent indigestion, skin blistering, dental problems, aches affecting the hips, redness of the eyes or any other serious side effects.

Precautions
This medicine should be taken alongside a full glass of water. You must also be standing or seated upright while taking it so as to prevent the tablet from becoming lodged in the oesophagus. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after the tablet has been taken, and avoid food and drinks (except for water) for a minimum period of 30 minutes after taking the medicine.

If you experience severe pain during the course of treatment, you must see your doctor immediately.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Risofos (Risedronate) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
