Uses
Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) is used in the treatment of migraine headaches. It is a type of triptan (also known as a serotonin agonist) that acts in the brain and stimulates the serotonin receptors, resulting in a narrowing of the blood vessels. In addition to this, it can prevent the sending of pain signals to the patient's brain. This makes it effective at reducing headaches, nausea, light sensitivity and other migraine symptoms, however, it will not prevent the occurrence of future migraine attacks.
Dosage and Administration
Patients will need to take Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) as soon as migraine headache symptoms are noticed. Some patients (such as those considered to be at risk of heart disease) who have not previously been treated with this medicine may need to take the first dosage in the presence of a doctor. In all cases, your doctor will give you strict dosage instructions, which must be complied with.
Patients are usually told to take one dose, and this is generally sufficient. However, if the first dose does not relieve the pain, it is possible that your doctor will instruct you to take a second dose (after a period of at least 2 hours since the first dose has elapsed). Never exceed the recommended dosage.
Side effects
Patients taking Suminat (Sumatriptan Succinate) for migraines may experience some side effects, such as:

Patients should note that this drug is only to be used for headaches that have been diagnosed as migraine headaches, and it should not be taken for a common tension headache or headaches which are not migraine headaches.
