Uses
Tensinor (Atenolol) is mainly used to treat high blood pressure, or as part of a regular treatment for angina. Other possible reasons it may be prescribed include treating irregular heartbeats, preventing migraine headaches and treating withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. This drug is a type of medicine called a beta blocker, and it works by acting on beta receptors in the heart, thereby reducing the effect of noradrenaline and adrenaline on the patient's heart. As a result of this, blood pressure is reduced and the blood flow is improved.
Dosage and Administration
Dosages vary greatly for patients taking Tensinor (Atenolol), and in all cases, a visit to the doctor is necessary to determine the proper dosage. Adults being treated for high blood pressure are often told to take 50mg, once per day. If the prescribing doctor is not satisfied with the patient's response to treatment, this dosage may be increased to 100mg per day. Angina, migraine and other conditions generally require different dosage regimens, and in all cases, the prescribing doctor will determine the correct amount to take.
