Hair4U 2% (Minoxidil) is a synthetic drug used to treat the initial stages of hair loss and androgenic baldness.
The mechanism of action by which minoxidil enhances hair growth is not fully understood.
Minoxidil contains nitrogen oxide - a chemical functional group of nitrogen, so it can have properties of nitrogen oxide receptor agonists.
In addition, minoxidil due to action on potassium channels causes hyperpolarization of cell membranes. Minoxidil also stimulates the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2, which directly promotes the expression of the VEGF gene, and indirectly contributes to its expression by opening calcium channels and increasing the amount of calcium in cells.
Minoxidil also stimulates the proliferation of the cells of the hair follicles and keratinocytes.
Minoxidil is less effective in larger hair loss areas, and, moreover, its effectiveness is mainly recorded in young men with hair loss of less than 5 years. Minoxidil is more effective in hair loss in the parietal region. The effectiveness of minoxidil is lower in the presence of inflammation in the area of hair follicles. The effectiveness of minoxidil becomes noticeable in its long-term use (from 3 months to a year).
