Uses
m-Nystatin Oral Drops (Nystatin) are used to treat oral thrush (sometimes called oral candidiasis). This infection occurs as a result of a fungus called Candida, and its symptoms include painful patches in the mouth. The active ingredient in this oral suspension is a type of polyene antifungal, which destroys the cell wall of the fungus, thereby killing it. During treatment, only a miniscule amount of the medicine is absorbed into the blood stream, and because of this, it will not treat infections elsewhere in the body.
Dosage and Administration
Each bottle of m-Nystatin Oral Drops (Nystatin) contains 24ml, and every 1ml of the solution contains 100,000 units of the active ingredient. A measuring syringe is also provided, so that patients can use the correct amount. Your doctor may prescribe a dosage of 1ml, taken 4 times per day, however, this may vary and all patients must visit their doctor prior to starting treatment. Treatment usually lasts for 48 hours after the symptoms have healed or when your doctor tells you to stop.
Before using it, make sure that you shake the bottle well. You may then drop 1ml of the medicine into your mouth with the measuring syringe. After you have taken it, swish the solution around for as long as you possibly can, and then swallow it. The measuring syringe should be washed with warm water after use, and allowed to dry.
