Uses
Alerid (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) is an antihistamine, which has a number of uses. It is used to treat allergic rhinitis that is seasonal (hay fever), perennial (year round) allergic rhinitis and idiopathic urticaria. This medicine works by inhibiting the action of histamine (a chemical in the body responsible for allergic reactions), and prevents it from causing other allergy chemicals to be released. In addition to this, the blood supply to the affected area is reduced, which also contributes to providing relief from allergy symptoms.
Dosage and Administration
Alerid (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) comes in the form of tablets, which are taken by mouth. You must see your doctor to find out the correct amount to take. Adult patients who are taking this medicine to treat allergic rhinitis are generally directed to take 5mg to 10mg per day. Urticaria may also be treated with the same amount. Swallow the tablet whole, and only take it for the period of time for which your doctor has prescribed it. If your symptoms do not improve, you should go and see your doctor.
