Uses
Alphamox (Amoxycillin) (also spelled amoxicillin) is a penicillin antibiotic which is prescribed as a treatment for many different infections caused by bacteria. Conditions it treats include bronchitis and other lung or respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, pyleonephritis, urinary tract infections, skin infections, gonorrhoea and many other infections. This antibiotic works by causing holes in the cell walls of the bacteria, eventually destroying it.
Dosage and Administration
Alphamox (Amoxycillin) capsules are taken by mouth. Because this antibiotic medication is used to treat a variety of infections, the exact dosage will be decided by the prescribing doctor, and will depend on the condition being treated. Adult patients treating an infection of the urinary tract are often told to take 250mg to 500mg by mouth, 3 times per day, for 3 to 7 days. Alternatively, the patient may be told to take 500mg to 875mg twice per day. Other types of infection will require a different dosage, and you must see your doctor to determine the correct dose.
Side effects
Patients treating a bacterial infection with Alphamox (Amoxycillin) capsules may sometimes experience side effects, such as:
If any side effects worry you, go and see your doctor. Serious reactions which require medical attention straight away include colitis, amoxicillin crystals in the urine, severe skin blisters, unusual bleeding and muscle weakness. This is not a complete list of side effects, and other reactions which have not been listed here may also occur.
Precautions
If this medicine is prescribed to you, it is necessary to continue taking it until the entire prescribed amount has been consumed (unless your doctor tells you not to). Stopping treatment prematurely may result in a return of symptoms.
Before commencing treatment, it is necessary to inform your doctor if your medical history involves diseases of the kidneys or infectious monomucleosis.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
Always use Alphamox (Amoxycillin) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.
