Uses
Alphamox (Amoxycillin) is a penicillin antibiotic (also referred to as amoxicillin) which is prescribed to treat many different infections caused by bacteria. Conditions treated include gonorrhoea, peritonitis, urinary and respiratory tract infections, nasal passage, throat or sinus infections, Lyme disease, and many other types of bacterial infections.
This medication works by inhibiting the bacteria from forming cell walls, which are crucial for the survival of the bacteria. As a result of this, the bacteria are destroyed, and the infection is treated. It is important to note that this medication is only effective against infections caused by bacteria, and it will not work for viral infections.
Dosage and Administration
Patients who are taking Alphamox (Amoxycillin) capsules will need to visit their doctor before treatment, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. If you are taking this medicine to treat pneumonia, you may be directed by your doctor to take 500mg by mouth, 3 times per day. Treatment usually lasts for 7 to 10 days. Adults treating a skin infection are generally instructed to take 250mg to 500mg by mouth, 3 times per day, and treatment lasts for 7 to 10 days.
