Uses
Betnovate-C Cream (Betamethasone Valerate/Clioquinol) combines 2 active ingredients into one specially formulated cream, and is used to treat a wide range of conditions that can affect the skin. It may be prescribed to treat severe itching or inflammation of the skin, eczema, prurigo nodularis, seborrhoeic/contact dermatitis, perianal intertrigo, psoriasis, insect bites which have become infected, and any other condition as specified by the prescribing doctor.

This cream contains a corticosteroid (betamethasone), which is effective at reducing skin inflammation, and can also relieve itchy skin. It works by preventing the immune system from releasing the substances which cause swelling and itching of the skin. The other ingredient, clioquinol, is effective as an antibacterial and antifungal, and can prevent the growth of fungus or bacteria, thereby making it effective at treating bacterial and fungal skin infections.

Dosage and Administration
Betnovate-C Cream (Betamethasone Valerate/Clioquinol) is a topical treatment for external use only. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the area of skin requiring treatment, as directed by your doctor. When prescribing this cream, you will be told by your doctor how much to apply, and how long you need to apply it for. Ensure that you wash your hands after the application of the cream (unless you are treating a skin condition affecting your hands).

Side effects
Applying Betnovate-C Cream (Betamethasone Valerate/Clioquinol) to the skin may sometimes cause side effects, including:

• Acne
• Dry skin
• Stinging
• Itching or a burning sensation
• Changes in the colour of the skin

If any of the reactions listed above are severe, you should tell your doctor straight away. Serious side effects require medical attention immediately. Examples of this include signs of a skin infection, a severe rash and wheezing. This is not a complete list of possible reactions, and you must ask your doctor about all possible side effects before starting treatment.

Precautions
If you do not notice any improvement in your symptoms, or if your condition worsens during the first 7 days of treatment, you should tell your doctor.

Doctors generally do not prescribe this cream for long term use, as doing so increases the risk of side effects.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Betnovate-C Cream (Betamethasone Valerate/Clioquinol) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
