CEFADUR-250 DT

Uses
Cefadur-250 DT (Cefadroxil) is a cephalosporin antibiotic which is effective against many different types of bacteria that can cause infections. If you are suffering from a bacterial infection of the skin, throat, urinary tract or any other type of infection (however, it must be noted that this medicine is only effective against infections caused by bacteria, and will not work on viral infections), you may be prescribed this medicine by your doctor. In some cases, patients with artificial heart valves may be given this medicine before dental surgery to protect against bacterial endocarditis (a severe infection).

Dosage and Administration
Cefadur-250 DT (Cefadroxil) comes as tablets, each of which contains 250mg of the active ingredient. You will have to visit your doctor prior to taking this drug. A tissue sample may be necessary, in order to determine whether or not this medicine is effective against the bacteria that caused your infection. In addition to this, you will be told the correct amount of medicine to take, which is generally decided upon based on the condition being treated and the seriousness of the infection.

Patients who are treating an upper respiratory tract infection may be told to take 500mg by mouth, at 12 hour intervals. You may need to continue treatment for 7 to 10 days. Other conditions may require different doses, and it is essential that you strictly follow your doctor's instructions. Remember that with antibiotic medication, you need to continue treatment until you have taken the entire amount of medicine which was prescribed to you. Otherwise, your symptoms may return.

Side effects
Treating bacterial infections with Cefadur-250 DT (Cefadroxil) can sometimes result in side effects, such as:

• Restlessness
• Nausea and vomiting
• Stiff muscles or joint pain
• Unusual taste in the mouth
• Vaginal discharge or itchiness

Inform your doctor about any side effects which you experience during the course of treatment. Serious reactions may occur in some patients (however, this is usually less common). You should immediately see your doctor if you notice signs of a vaginal infection, mouth sores, pyrexia or any other signs that you are suffering from serious side effects.

Precautions
In some cases, bowel inflammation (colitis) can occur in patients taking this drug. If diarrhoea occurs either while taking this drug or after treatment, you must tell your doctor.

If you are currently affected by (or have ever suffered from) colitis or kidney disease, you must inform your doctor before you start taking this medicine.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Cefadur-250 DT (Cefadroxil) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you suffer from any allergies.
• If you suffer from any other health conditions or illnesses.
• If you are using any other medicine (including all non-prescription).
• If you are using any supplements, vitamins, or herbal products of any kind.
