Uses
Clofert-100 (Clomifene Citrate) (Clomiphene) is an anti-oestrogen medicine which treats female infertility by inducing ovulation. Men affected by hypogonadism (insufficient testosterone production) have also taken it to treat their condition. When used as a fertility drug for women, it acts on the ovaries, hypothalamus and pituitary glands, and inhibits the intracellular oestrogen receptors. This in turn stops oestrogen activity.
Because oestrogen can act on certain receptors in the brain, causing it to send signals out that prevent the release of an egg (ovulation), blocking its action on the receptors stops this. As a direct result of this, the release of hormones needed to produce ovulation is no longer inhibited, allowing for the restoration of a normal ovulation cycle.
Medical experts have conducted studies on adult men with hypogonadism and sexual dysfunction to determine whether or not it can enhance male fertility. These studies focused on its effects on serum testosterone levels and androgen production.
Dosage and Administration
Clofert-100 (Clomifene Citrate) is provided as tablets for oral administration. Each tablet contains 100mg of the active ingredient. Your doctor will advise you how to take it, and when it should be administered. The time of administration can affect the results, and because of this, females taking it as a fertility treatment have sometimes been instructed to take it for a consecutive 5 day regimen, with treatment usually commencing during the first 5 days of the period. Should ovulation occur, your doctor may recommend a further course of treatment. Never take more than your doctor tells you to take, as this could be hazardous.
