Uses
Colifoam Aerosol Foam (Hydrocortisone Acetate) is used by patients to treat ulcerative colitis, and the symptoms of this condition, such as diarrhoea, pain in the rectum and bloody stools. These symptoms are caused by inflammation. The active ingredient in this product is a type of corticosteroid, which works by reducing inflammation in the rectum. This product is also used to treat itching and swelling in the rectal area occurring as a result of haemorrhoids and other conditions.
Dosage and Administration
Colifoam Aerosol Foam (Hydrocortisone Acetate) is administered in the rectum, usually 1 to 2 times per day for a period of 2 to 3 weeks, after which the dosage is reduced. Your doctor will tell you how long you need to use it for, and will also tell you the correct dosage, which may need to be adjusted from time to time. Before you use it, you should shake the container for 1 minute. Ensure that the container is in an upright position, and insert the container into the tip of the applicator. The plunger on the applicator must be pulled all the way out. You may then press gently on the container cap, filling the applicator with the foam. Remove the applicator from the container, and gently insert it into the anus. Push on the plunger, until the applicator is empty. Ensure that the applicator is properly cleaned before re-using it. It is necessary to take it apart in order to properly clean it.
