Daivobet Ointment

Uses
Daivobet Ointment (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) is applied directly to the skin to treat plaque psoriasis. This specially formulated ointment combines two ingredients, which work together to treat plaques (raised areas on the skin, which are rough and scaly). These symptoms occur as a result of overactive skin cell production by the body. Calcipotriol (an active ingredient in this ointment) is derived from vitamin D. It decreases abnormal production of skin cells, thereby helping to clear scaling and plaques. This ointment also contains betamethasone, a type of corticosteroid, which reduces inflammation and itchiness.

Dosage and administration
Daivobet Ointment (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) should only be applied to the skin. Care must be taken to ensure that it is only applied to areas of the skin affected by psoriasis. Ask your doctor how long treatment is required, as well as how often you should apply it. Patients are normally told by their doctor to apply it once per day, for a period of 4 weeks. You should not use it for longer than 4 weeks unless your doctor has told you to. Covering in excess of 30% of the body area is not advised. Never apply more than 100g of ointment in any 1 week period.

Side effects
Daivobet Ointment (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) may occasionally cause patients to experience side effects. Some commonly reported side effects are listed here:

• Redness or swelling of the skin
• A burning sensation affecting your skin
• Skin discolouration
• Light sensitivity affecting the skin
• Back pain

You should notify your doctor if any side effects occur. Other side effects not listed here may also occur. Ask your doctor about the risk of all possible side effects before you begin using this ointment.

Precautions
While using this ointment, it is important to ensure that any treated skin is not exposed to sunlight. You should cover the affected areas of skin with clothing if you are going to be outdoors for an extended period of time.

Female patients using this ointment should inform their doctor as soon as possible if they become pregnant.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Always use Daivobet Ointment (Calcipotriol/Betamethasone) as you have been prescribed by your doctor. Never self-medicate or change your dosage without first consulting your doctor. The correct dosage can vary depending on your health, medical history, and the severity of the condition being treated.

This medication may not be safe for all patients. Before you begin using it always disclose the following to your doctor:
