Uses
Dantrium (Dantrolene) is prescribed to patients affected by conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy or injuries to the spinal cord to treat muscle spasticity. Treatment with this drug helps to relieve muscular stiffness and pain, allowing patients to easily carry out their daily activities. Other conditions which this medicine may be prescribed to treat include malignant hyperthermia caused by surgery or anaesthesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Dosage and Administration
Dantrium (Dantrolene) tablets are administered by mouth. Patients must strictly follow any instructions given to them by their doctor. In some cases, adults undergoing treatment for chronic spasticity are instructed (by a doctor) to take 25mg once per day for a period of 7 days, after which the dose is increased to three doses of 25mg per day for 7 days. Following this, the dosage may be increased again to 50mg (3 times per day) for yet another 7 days, and then the patient may be told to take 100mg, 3 times a day. Different dosage regimens may be required for some patients, and a doctor will decide the required amount to take in all cases.
