Uses
Diprosone OV Ointment (Betamethasone Dipropionate) is a topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, which works on the skin by decreasing inflammation and relieving itchiness. In addition to exhibiting glucocorticoid action, it has also been shown to have a small amount of mineralocorticoid activity.
Although many doctors have stated that its exact mechanism of action has not yet been fully ascertained, it is a widely established belief among experts that its efficacy in the treatment of topical dermatoses is related to its vasoconstrictive action. By preventing inflammation of the blood vessels and suppressing the immune response, it can help to reduce local itching, flaking and swelling of the skin. Indications include dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.
Dosage and Administration
Diprosone OV Ointment (Betamethasone Dipropionate) is provided in a 30mg tube. Each gram contains 0.5mg of the active ingredient. A thin layer of ointment is all that is needed, and patients are advised against applying too much ointment. Your doctor will evaluate your individual needs and the severity of the condition and how your body reacts to the ointment. Once the symptoms have cleared up, treatment is generally ceased. There is a possibility that you will be advised by your doctor to use it 1 to 2 times each day. The duration of treatment depends on how long it takes for the condition to heal.
