Uses
Diurin (Frusemide) (sometimes referred to as Furosemide) belongs to a group of medicines known as loop diuretics. It can treat oedema (another name for fluid retention) in patients affected by medical disorders such as diseases of the liver, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and other related conditions. Doctors also prescribed it as a high blood pressure treatment.
These tablets help to remove excessive fluid that may have become retained in the body, thereby treating the fluid build up that can occur in patients affected by oedema. This is achieved by causing an increase in the amount of urine produced by the body. In addition to this, more salts are passed in the urine, which prevents excess salts from being absorbed by the body.
Dosage and Administration
Diurin (Frusemide) comes in the form of tablets, each of which contains 40mg of the active ingredient. Your doctor will prescribe the required dosage, and you must follow all instructions given to you. The initial dosage prescribed to adult patients undergoing treatment for oedema generally ranges between 20mg and 80mg for each dose (the exact amount will be decided by your doctor after a medical examination).
Patients are usually told to take 1 to 2 doses per day. Maintenance therapy will require an adjustment to the dosage in order to achieve the best results. Always follow the instructions of the prescribing doctor. Other conditions are usually treated with a different dosage regimen.
